We're over the moon that our special Marie Curie Yarn that we developed in conjunction with our friends at West Yorkshire Spinners has been well received by crafters not just in the UK but overseas as well!
We've been keeping an eye on social media & have seen some fabulous creations of socks, shawls & gloves being made, one project that really caught our eye was over on Instagram where we spotted Sherlock_Knits a.k.a Dr Sarah Holmes who works at the Bradford Marie Curie Hospice, she has started knitting socks in the Marie Curie Yarn to gift to all the patients on Christmas Day.
There are 16 beds in total at the Bradford Hospice & Sarah has recruited some helpers along the way to help her on her quest, however we got chatting & we thought it would be lovely if possible that all the patients in the UK (229 beds in total!) could be gifted a pair of hand-made Marie Curie Socks on 🎅🏻 Christmas Day 🎅🏻 so the Marie Curie Sock quest was born!
All the in-patients are adults and any size socks will be gratefully received, Sarah would really like the Marie Curie Yarn to be used in the socks as a £2 donation is being given to Marie Curie for each ball sold. Feel free to use any sock pattern but if you’d like to use Sarah’s patternhttp://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/marie-curie-quest-socks she has shared this on Ravelry with all proceeds being donated to Marie Curie.
If you’re new to sock knitting there’s a great tutorial & pattern from Winwick Mum here. Winwick Mum has a sockalong group on Facebook with lots of super-helpful folk to help you on your way.
The yarn is available herehttp://www.cityknits.co.uk/west%2Dyorkshire%2Dspinners%2Dsignature%2D4%2Dply%2D%2D%2Dspecial%2Dlimited%2Dedition%2Dmarie%2Dcurie%7E2645 or instore at Christine's Wool Shop in Bournville, Birmingham. £2 per ball is being donated from each ball sold & we are on target to raise £2k from these yarn sales for the charity.
Once you’re done, please pop them in the post for the attention of Smita Mistry to Marie Curie, 89 Albert Embankment, London SE1 7TP If you’d like them to go to a specific hospice this is no problem at all, just leave us a note.
Thank you once again! We’ll keep you all updated on how we’re doing!
As always, we are so grateful for your support. We would really appreciate if you could share this blog post & help Sarah fulfil her quest.
Love from Caroline, Julie & Sally xx

ReplyDeleteJust putting a pair in the post. They look so good that I might have to buy some more yarn and make a pair for myself!
